Proceeds from New Year Exemption Cards for the Benefit of the Poor

In 1833, proceeds from New Year exemption cards raised significant funds for the poor across Meran, Klausen, Kaltern, and Botzen, supplemented in Kaltern by grain donations. In Botzen, a musical society additionally held a New Year's Day benefit concert for the local poor.

Botzen, 12 Jan. The charitable introduction of exemption cards on the change of the year has yielded the following sums for the benefit of the poor this year, according to the notices received: a. In the town of Meran 27 fl. 12 kr.; b. in the town of Klausen 20 fl. 48 kr.; c. in the market town of Kaltern, through a subscription organized instead of purchasing exemption cards, in addition to 112 Star of grain, a cash amount of 1013 fl. 7 kr.; and d. in the town of Botzen 243 fl. 16 ½ kr. — As had already occurred for the past two years, a society of friends of music has again this year taken the generous resolution to welcome the first day of the year with a musical academy and to dedicate the proceeds of 126 fl. 35 kr. to the local poor.
