Following months of quartering in and around Meran, the k. k. Brood Border Regiment departed for the Oberinntal. Public gratitude is expressed to the commanding officers for the exemplary conduct of the troops and their harmonious relationship with the local rural population.
On 21 July 1833, a major fire triggered by lightning in Tschengels destroyed five houses and their agricultural outbuildings, leaving three people severely injured. Thanks to the prompt intervention of numerous neighbouring communities equipped with fire engines, the rectory was saved.
In the judicial district of Schlanders in Vinschgau, predators such as vultures, wolves, and bears had caused substantial damage to grazing livestock for years. On 12 June 1833, a hunter from Martell succeeded in shooting a mother bear along with her three cubs in the Laserthal.
In 1833, proceeds from New Year exemption cards raised significant funds for the poor across Meran, Klausen, Kaltern, and Botzen, supplemented in Kaltern by grain donations. In Botzen, a musical society additionally held a New Year's Day benefit concert for the local poor.
