Archduke John's Journey across the Niederjoch to Meran and Schenna
Report on Archduke John's Alpine crossing over the Niederjochferner glacier to Schnals despite a glacial flood in the Ötztal. Following his arrival in Meran, he inspected the noble residences in Obermais and Schenna Castle before traveling on to Bozen.

Meran, July 13. Due to the outburst of the Rofenerbach on the 7th of this month in the inner Oetzthal, His Imperial Highness the Most Serene Archduke John was unable to undertake the journey to the Niederjochferner glaciers by the direct route, but only by taking a detour of nearly three hours. He was not deterred by this obstacle from crossing the glacier, and after an extremely arduous march across the glaciers that had been softened the previous day, arrived safely in the evening at Our Lady in Schnals (U. L. Frau in Schnals), where he stayed overnight, and arrived in Meran on the 9th of this month at 11:30 a.m., visiting on foot on that same day all the castles and noble residences of the beautifully situated Obermais. At 10 a.m., His Imperial Highness proceeded to his proprietary estate of Schönna, inspected the castle, and in the afternoon continued the journey via Andrian and Eppan to Botzen.

Archduke Johann's Transit Through Innsbruck
Archduke Johann arrived in Innsbruck from Meran, accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel v. Froßsard. Following a brief stay at the inn zur goldenen Sonne, he continued his journey toward Salzburg.

Military Command Thanks the Merano Magistrate for a Donation
On the occasion of the Emperor's birthday, the municipal magistrate of Merano donated wine and bread to the local garrison. The military command in Innsbruck formally expressed its thanks and reported the patriotic gesture to higher authorities.
