Imperial Honour and Feudal Grant for the Descendants of Andreas von Hofer
Imperial resolutions from 1837 and 1838 establish a perpetual princely fief on the former estate of Andreas von Hofer in Passeier. A grandson is enfeoffed with the property, and the descendants are granted entry into the Tyrolean nobility register.

In order to preserve for posterity an honourable memory of Andreas v. Hofer, who rendered great services to the Most High Imperial House and to his fatherland Tyrol, His Imperial and Royal Apostolic Majesty was pleased to decree, by supreme cabinet letter of 11 February 1837 and supreme resolution of 22 April 1838, that the estate he left behind in Passeier be purchased and transformed into a princely fief that shall bear the Hofer name in perpetuity, that a grandson of Andreas v. Hofer be enfeoffed with it, and furthermore most graciously to grant the admission of Andreas v. Hofer's descendants into the Tyrolean noble register of the estates.

Proprietor Joseph Holzner announces the opening of Mitterbad near St. Pankraz in Ulten for 10 June 1838. Guest transport between Lana, Ulten, Bozen, and Meran is once again managed by innkeeper Joseph Teiß.

In the Passeier Valley, the birthday of Emperor Ferdinand I was marked by festive services in St. Leonhard and St. Martin and collections for flood victims in Pest. A convivial banquet at the Sandwirthshaus concluded the commemorations.

The year 1838 in the Meran region was marked by regional identity, notable figures, and preparations for tourism. May centered on imperial honors for Andreas Hofer's family in the Passeier Valley and the opening of the Mitterbad spa in the Ultult Valley.
