Completion of the Road over the Wormser Joch
In May 1825, the road over the Wormser Joch was completed. Reaching an elevation of over 8,000 feet above sea level, the pass connects two territories of the Austrian Empire. Initial freight trips to transport southern fruits from Bormio and Sondrio have already commenced.

Mals (in Vinschgau), May 25. The road over the Wormser Joch, one of the boldest undertakings of our time, is completed. Its highest point is elevated over 8,000 feet above sea level, thus surpassing in height the long-admired road constructions of earlier times. The obstacles posed by the nature of the terrain to this construction were successfully removed through art, thereby bringing two neighboring peoples, both subjects of the great Austrian Empire, into closest connection. Mr. Jäger, innkeeper from Landeck, traveled over it yesterday for the first time with a wide-rimmed freight wagon to fetch southern fruits from Bormio and Sondrio.
