Overview

In June 1825, the newly completed road over the Stelvio Pass was the focus of transport developments. Initial successful freight journeys and test drives with two-horse carriages demonstrated the feasibility of the pass. This established an important connection between the territories of the Austrian Empire for the transport of southern fruits.

Journey of the innkeeper Jäger on the Wormser Straße

A report from Innsbruck provides details on the passability of the Wormser Straße. The innkeeper Jäger from Landeck made the journey with a two-horse carriage, carrying varying loads on different sections between Sondrio, Bormio, and Trafoi.

Completion of the Road over the Wormser Joch

In May 1825, the road over the Wormser Joch was completed. Reaching an elevation of over 8,000 feet above sea level, the pass connects two territories of the Austrian Empire. Initial freight trips to transport southern fruits from Bormio and Sondrio have already commenced.
