Meran, 7 June. Dr. Lentner disposed of his treasure of books in his last will in favor of the local gymnasium with the words: "I bequeath my entire library to the gymnasium of Meran."
In accordance with this testamentary disposition, the valuable collection of books was handed over to the gymnasium a few days ago. It numbers around 200 volumes, which provide important contributions to history and supplement Middle High German literature.
Previously, the gymnasium's library had received a considerable addition through the "Wiener Jahrbücher," presented as a gift to the gymnasium by the high Ministry of Education, and through works of Latin literature that the late parish priest Tröger designated for the gymnasium in his will.
The coin cabinet was enriched by fine contributions from Mayor Haller, municipal councilors Verdroß and Kirchlechner, and Baron Hugo von Goldegg.
The natural history cabinet received an extremely valuable contribution from Baron von Hausmann of Bozen, who expanded the herbarium with 141 species in 275 specimens, and from Mr. Elsler, surgeon in Partschins, who sent in 18 plates of butterflies drawn from nature and exquisitely painted; district judge Sebastian von Isser continued his contributions to this cabinet.
These, like all those significant gifts that, according to public journals, have flowed to Tyrolean gymnasiums, testify to the laudable spirit in Tyrol of equipping educational institutions for their high goal. In expressing its warmest gratitude to all benefactors, the Gymnasium of Meran simultaneously acknowledges its pleasant duty to make full use of all gifts for the education of youth.

1852 at a glance
The year 1852 in Merano was shaped by the political and administrative changes of neo-absolutism, accompanied by civic engagement in social and educational fields. While regional infrastructure projects such as the Adige river regulation and railway planning progressed, natural events such as fires, livestock disease, and the vine fungus burdened the local economy.
