Marienberg, July 15. As is well known, at the close of the school year articles appeared in various Tyrolean newspapers regarding the Meran Gymnasium, in which, according to report, certain expressions seemed offensive to some toward the Director, Dr. Albert Jäger. In contrast, the teaching staff of this Gymnasium feels obliged to publicly express here its most sincere gratitude to its revered departing director for the distinguished work by which he made possible the opening of a complete Obergymnasium in Meran, and for the untiring prudence and care with which he directed the institution for two years, so that it now stands in high repute through his and the teaching staff's zealous cooperation. May the school continue to flourish happily and long even without this sorely missed head, who is answering a higher call! We are convinced that even from afar he will not forget the institution that has become so dear to him.

1851 at a glance
The year 1851 in Merano was strongly characterized by the Tyrolean target-shooting festival sponsored by Archduke John and celebrated solemnly in early summer. Alongside these large-scale festivities, public attention focused primarily on administrative reforms, social welfare measures, and the institutional development as well as personnel restructuring of the municipal school system. Religious events and regional economic themes also accompanied the public life of the spa town during this period. →
