Innsbruck, 11 July. It was utterly inexplicable to us what our esteemed * correspondent from the Adige might have found offensive, and toward whom, in the previous reports on the performance of the Meran Gymnasium. In any case, such a thing was certainly not the intention of the reporters, nor of ourselves. A public notice from the laudable monastery of "Marienberg" now seems to indicate to us where the misunderstanding may have originated. — It reads: "Marienberg, 7 July. In order to counter the emerging doubts regarding the continued existence of the Obergymnasium in Meran, let it be known that Pius Zingerle has been appointed Director and that the teaching staff has been completed."
We can only rejoice at this decision of the Benedictine convent of Marienberg, long highly deserving of the fatherland, and assure that we have not for a single minute doubted its firm resolve to persevere in this meritorious endeavor, nor its sufficient strength.

On the Annual Reports of the Gymnasiums in Merano and Bozen
A dispatch from the Adige Valley compares the published school reports of the gymnasiums in Merano and Bozen. While the Merano publication is praised despite a noted omission regarding Father Placidus Degeser, the Bozen text draws criticism for its overly poetic and exalted framing of natural science.

1851 at a glance
The year 1851 in Merano was strongly characterized by the Tyrolean marksmen festival promoted by Archduke John and held in the early summer, which held major social and representative significance. At the same time, local education received important impulses through the securing of the upper secondary school and new structural developments. Social welfare measures, such as the opening of a childcare center, complemented public life during this period. →
