New Year's Charity Cards and Support for Impoverished Schoolchildren in Mais
Across Tyrol, the practice of replacing reciprocal New Year's courtesy visits with charitable donation cards is gaining ground. For the first time, the parish of Mais near Meran collected a notable sum through this initiative to assist impoverished schoolchildren.

Innsbruck, 9 Jan. News arrives from several regions of Tyrol that the custom, established here for several years, of purchasing cards for a voluntary donation toward a charitable cause instead of exchanging mutual New Year's courtesy visits, is spreading increasingly. Thus, for the first time this year, the parish of Mais near Meran collected a sum by no means insignificant in proportion to its population to support poor schoolchildren, earning the childlike gratitude of those concerned.
