Meran, 14 June. The fortunate winner of the first splendid festival banner with 20 ducats survived this joy for only a few days, for he has already been resting in the bosom of the earth for a week. Given the circumstances of the deceased brave marksman's family, the fine and valuable prize could hardly have been begrudged to any of the 1,563 marksmen more than to the poor weaver Josef Fiegl. Meran has purchased the banner and will preserve it as a cherished memento.
