Daily news.

Meran, 11 March. The election of the new shooting range committee justifies high hopes among local marksmen and shooting enthusiasts. The task facing the local shooting range this year—namely to organize an imperial shooting match worthy of the principal range of ancient Tyrol—demanded unquestionably that a young, vigorous man be placed at the head of the noble shooting guild. A portion of the count's meadowland on which the old civic shooting range stands has already been purchased, and work is briskly underway to tear down the inadequate shooting structure and erect a new building according to the fine, original plan of the worthy Nuremberg architect Kramer, who sadly died too young. As I hear, chief marksman Dr. Anton Putz is to generously advance 6,000 florins for this purpose. – As a not uninteresting piece of news, I add that Archduke Rainer will take up residence here, specifically at Winkl Castle, from June to October, instead of at Gandegg Castle in St. Michael as in the past two years. The relevant contracts were concluded in court four days ago. Sch. Z.

Alongside infrastructure and security challenges such as river regulation and responding to a major fire in Obermais, public life was also defined by broader political developments and preparations for the Archduke's summer visit. →
