Frankfurt. To the great astonishment of our Christian and un-Christian Friends of Light, one morning a procession with cross, banners, and other church trappings moved through the streets to escort to the resting place the earthly remains of Chaplain Schnupp, who had been stationed at the Church of St. Leonhard. In the procession, immediately before the hearse and behind a long line of priests, walked Beda Weber in ecclesiastical vestments, an imposing man and held in high esteem by old and young among Catholics and Protestants. Beda Weber belongs to the few March achievements that Frankfurt will soon still have to show; for unfortunately it is now certain that the Archduke Imperial Vicar will leave us in a few days.
1849 at a glance
In 1849, Meran was marked by significant investments in education, notably the imperial approval to transform the local grammar school into an eight-grade upper school with the cooperation of Marienberg Abbey. At the same time, public life was shaped by the departure of prominent professor Beda Weber to Frankfurt, administrative disputes, natural disasters, and initial developments related to transportation and spa activities. The reporting also reflected supra-regional political upheavals and the imperial visit of Archduchess Sophie. →
