News of the day.

Merano, 12 Nov. For several days we have been receiving frequent inquiries from various quarters, especially from North Tyrol, concerning the state of cholera in our area, which suggests that many false rumors have been circulated on the matter. In order to counter these and prevent alarming concerns, I hasten to inform you that so far only 2 cases have occurred in our vicinity, specifically in our small town, in which a cholera-like condition was diagnosed. One of those afflicted, a mason, had recently suffered from nervous fever, subsequently upset his stomach again, and died there on the night of the 9th from cramps; the other, a farmhand, has been confined to the hospital since the 10th with abdominal pain and vomiting. Apart from these two, no further cases have occurred, and overall the state of health, bolstered by the excellent weather we continue to enjoy, is so satisfactory as to leave nothing to be desired. Bolzano too is once again rid of this dreadful guest. (Südt. Z.)
