Plans for the Establishment of a Higher Gymnasium in Merano

Merano, March 8. The local Catholic constitutional association believed it should undertake the task of establishing a higher gymnasium in Merano. It is hoped that the set goal will be achieved all the more surely, as a lyceum had previously existed in Merano. The funds to bring such an educational institution into being should be raised without difficulty, since expanding the existing grand gymnasium building does not require an overly significant sum, and generous pledges have already been made. According to reliable sources, the Most Reverend Prelate of Marienberg has declared his readiness to staff the teaching chairs. The pedagogical competence of the Benedictines of Marienberg is well known to the land and the government; furthermore, the monastery's unremunerated assumption of the teaching posts will not cause the provincial treasury the slightest expense. The Burggrafenamt and the other judicial districts directly concerned therefore anticipate with confidence the favorable approval of the province in this matter.
