Relief After Fire in Burgstall and Sisters of Mercy for St. Martin

The misfortune of one's neighbor always offers an opportunity to make charity manifest in deeds. *For the inhabitants of Burgstall afflicted by fire in the night from the 14th to the 15th of this month, the sum of 300 and some gulden was collected here by a benevolent priest from the hands of generous citizens. From another charitable source flowed 93 fl. If the left hand knows nothing of the other gifts of the right, it is nevertheless certain that many another kindness poured in to the unfortunates. Imperishable are such blossoms of the heart. No vanity on the giver's part degrades the poor. During the fire itself, several priests also proved helpful and active. Thus Professor Beda Weber was seen once more at the head of valiant students working vigorously against the disastrous flames.

ʘ St. Martin in Passeier. According to reliable reports, the introduction of the Sisters of Mercy to the local village community is expected. Their field of activity will not be limited solely to the care of the sick, but will also encompass the school.
