Official Appointments and Kaiserjäger Shooting Festival in Meran

The Gubernium, in agreement with the Imperial-Royal Court of Appeal, has conferred the post of adjunct second class at the Imperial-Royal District Court in Fondo upon the district court actuary in Borgo, Johann Gatterer.

Meran, 4 July. Yesterday brought us a small but delightful celebration, which we mention all the more gladly in these patriotic pages as it displayed the old local virtues of hospitality and concord in the most gratifying light. The official gentlemen of the local Imperial-Royal District and Criminal Investigation Court, together with the burghers of the town of Meran, presented a target-shooting contest with twenty prizes to the 19th Company of the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger Regiment garrisoned here, in recognition of their exemplary conduct; each prize was decorated in the most graceful and costly manner with ribbons and flowers. How gladly these gifts were offered to the brave riflemen, and how joyfully they were accepted as proof of such esteem, was attested by the lively participation of residents of all classes in the shooting match itself. The company's shooting ground, situated in charming surroundings, was visited by numerous guests from morning until late in the evening. Here, on the banks of the Passer, in the shadow of grey Castle Zenoburg and amidst the most splendid foliage, we found a cheerful improvisation of the Bergisel shooting grounds with all its amusements and parkland. Beneath decorated tents people refreshed themselves in the sultry heat of the day, triumphal arches greeted visitors, flags fluttered everywhere, mortars boomed, and merry crowds rejoiced in the cheerful greenery. In the evening, the town music band arrived to render the distribution of prizes even more festive with song and sound. The gallant riflemen then received their trophies from eminent and graceful hands and subsequently marched into town, led by the civic band and followed by cheering onlookers. There the band continued playing for some time in front of the company barracks, a courtesy returned by the soldiers with the warmest three cheers; thus, through small gifts gladly offered and cordially received, the friendly rapport between the local populace and the native troops has benefited in every respect.
