Celebration of the Imperial Birthday in St. Leonhard in Passeier

St. Leonhard in Passeier, 19 April. Little Passeier, once destined by Providence to take the lead in the great struggle, never wished to lag behind in the celebration of imperial holidays either. Thus, the supreme birthday of His Imperial and Royal Majesty Ferdinand I was celebrated yesterday with a solemn church service, followed by a cheerful social gathering in the tavern of a venerable adjutant to the Sandwirth, and accompanied by general joy echoing loudly throughout the entire valley; and today, being Friday, when the Church always commemorates eternal redemption, in solemn, heartfelt prayers of thanksgiving repeated once more, that temporal liberation was also remembered, for which Passeier’s role at the forefront of the struggle had been the preparation, and which a few years later Austria’s great hero

and father, Franz I, himself led to glorious completion. Thus the celebration of the birth of the ruler who blesses the present people was observed with filial well-wishes, love, and joy. How this also manifested itself within the cheerful circle was expressed far better than any narrative or description could convey by a round song, with which a most esteemed member pleasantly surprised the company again this year. A larger open shooting match opened at the Sand for this very celebration will pleasantly entertain the public for some time to come.
