Remarkable Celestial Phenomenon over Meran
Report on the sighting of a bright, moon-sized fireball on the evening of July 17, 1835, over Meran. The phenomenon traveled silently toward the west and was observed at the same time in Milan.

On July 17 of this year, around 8:30 in the evening, a remarkable celestial phenomenon was observed in Meran. A brightly glowing fireball of somewhat elongated shape, about the size of the moon, appeared on the horizon. The light was pale and dazzling, resembling the light of Greek fire. The sphere flew from the center of the horizon, where it was first sighted, toward the west, disappearing behind the mountain after two seconds. No sound was heard. This phenomenon is without doubt the same one observed at the very same time in Milan.
