Archduke Johann's Visit to Merano
Account of Archduke Johann's arrival in Meran following a journey on foot and horseback across the Jaufen Pass. After a ceremonial reception and high-level visits, he departed early the next morning for Bregenz.

Meran, July 1. Yesterday, His Imperial Highness Archduke Johann arrived here, took lodgings at the Post, and was received with the highest solemnity by the district captain Count Brandis, the magistrate, the nobility, and the clergy. His Imperial Highness had traversed the route from Sterzing over the Jaufen on foot and had ridden through the Passeyerthal as far as Zenoberg. Twelve handsomely adorned riflemen formed the guard. Immediately following his arrival, His Imperial Highness received the visits of Prince Fugger and of Count Senft, Imperial-Royal envoy to the Tuscan court. Early this morning, His Highness continued his journey to Bregenz.

Charity Concert by the Artist Couple Cornet in Meran
Court opera director Julius Cornet and his wife gave an acclaimed charity concert in the casino hall in Meran to benefit the local poor. The proceeds of nearly 80 guilders and the musical performances were met with enthusiastic praise from both locals and visitors.
