Celebrations for the Emperor's Birthday in Bolzano

Botzen, 12 February. On the 9th of this month, the supreme birthday of His Majesty the Emperor was celebrated here; after the solemnity of this day had already been announced early in the morning, as well as on the eve before, by mortar salutes and the ringing of bells, it was commemorated through a solemn church service attended by all civil and military authorities, a parade formation of the k. k. garrison, and an assembly of all authorities, local dignitaries, and many private citizens at the inn zur Kaiserkrone for a festive banquet, during which toasts were raised to the health and long life of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress, as well as the younger King of Hungary and the entire imperial house. — On the eve before, this festive day was also duly celebrated in the local theatre with a prologue, the singing of the beloved national anthem before the festively decorated portrait of His Majesty the Emperor, and the performance of the fitting occasional play: "Erzherzog Maximilians Brautzug von Deinhartstein," with full illumination of the very well-attended house. — Furthermore, the local riflemen's association held a free shooting match for 22 convention thalers and decorations to mark this joyous day. — Sentiments of loyalty and deepest devotion to His Majesty the Emperor were manifested on all sides on this occasion.
