Appendix.

Overview of the medicinal springs of Tyrol and Vorarlberg, compiled by Professor F. C. Karpe in 1828. 1/4

The author of this essay has collected for several years the historical data, chemical analyses, and results of therapeutic applications concerning the medicinal springs of Tyrol and Vorarlberg; should this essay provide an occasion to receive contributions from various sides and support in his efforts, he would be able to present a comprehensive and, as he flatters himself, useful work to the public *).

…..

Bachgart near Mühlbach in the Puster Valley, an alkaline-earthy water, is used against menstrual disorders, hysteria, and infertility, both in drinking and bathing cures.

……

Egart on the Töll near Meran has an earthy-saline chalybeate spring and is the best-equipped among all similar Tyrolean establishments. It is frequently used against cachexia, nervous and excretory disorders, chronic skin eruptions, rheumatralgia, incipient consumption, gout, paralysis, urinary complaints, and leucorrhoea, in both drinking and bathing cures.

…..

Gorshof near Meran, an earthy chalybeate water, is recorded by Cranz; it must be either a clerical error or a change of name that accounts for the fact that its location can no longer even be specified.

*) The editors cannot refrain here from expressing the wish that reports on visitor numbers, the efficacy thereof, desired or completed improvements, etc., as well as depictions of life in our spas, be communicated to them from time to time from the frequented baths.

Agriculture.

Question. What effects and benefits have resulted from the use of bone meal as fertilizer, as mentioned several times in the Tiroler Bote, and is this fertilizing method suitable and recommendable for every soil type?

Those esteemed estate owners who have already made use of bone meal as fertilizer, and in what quantity per Joch of land, are requested to submit their relevant experiences to the editors of the Bote für Tirol und Vorarlberg as soon as possible, and also to indicate whether this type of fertilizer was sown before or after ploughing the arable land, and whether it is also applicable to meadows; which information the editorial team will make known through the Tiroler Bote so that farmers, who often suffer a great shortage of manure, may make use of bone meal.

1830 at a glance

In 1830, regional history and the development of spa and health tourism in the Adige district and Tyrol were central to the public discourse. Alongside detailed analyses of the mineral springs and health resorts around Merano, publications also documented biographical accounts of figures such as painter Johann Evangelist Holzer and innovations in agriculture.
