Botzen, Dec. 24. Early today between 6 and 7 o'clock, an unprecedented tragedy occurred on a farm at Guntschna near Gries, close to Botzen. A considerable meadow situated above the said farm, loosened by the recent snowy and rainy weather, suddenly collapsed, carrying along massive boulders and rushing irresistibly down upon the house, shattering its entire rear portion to the ground. - The father of the family, together with his two small children, escaped the imminent danger of death through great exertion and presence of mind. His good, industrious wife was buried by the aforementioned terrible avalanche while heating the room, to such an extent that numerous workers, in the presence of the titled Herr k. k. Gubernialrath and Kreishauptmann Ritter von Hauer, who immediately took the most appropriate measures for her rescue, were unable to find the slightest trace of her despite their utmost efforts. It appears that further rocks threaten to fall.
