Overview

In December 1821, the press reported on the historical presence and use of Tyrolean white marble in comparison with Carrara. Furthermore, a severe landslide occurred on Christmas Eve in Guntschna near Gries, burying a farmhouse and resulting in a fatality despite immediate rescue operations.

Landslide onto a farmstead in Guntschna near Gries

On December 24, 1821, a severe landslide occurred in Guntschna near Gries, in which a meadow and massive rocks collapsed onto a farmhouse. While the father and two children escaped, the mother was buried under the debris. Despite immediate rescue operations led by Kreishauptmann Ritter von Hauer, the woman remained missing.

On Tyrolean marble in Vinschgau and Wipptal
