Severe weather and flooding in the Bozen area
In late May 1821, heavy rainfall in the Bozen area caused a significant rise in the Eisack and Talfer rivers. The floodwaters washed away large quantities of timber, damaged the main road near Deutschen, and temporarily disrupted postal services to the south.

Botzen, May 30. Last Sunday rain fell in torrents in this area, and on the following Monday the Eisack and the Talfer were so swollen that one could no longer reach the Loretto bridge with dry feet. Suffice it to say that the wooden logs swept away by the Talfer, around 1000 Klafter, partly cover Lake Kaltern. Before Deutschen, the Eisack washed away about 40 Klafter of the main road. Similar events may also have occurred in the Trent and Rovereto districts, as the Italian post is missing here so far.
