Merano, 20 March. (Corresp.) In No. 7 of this publication, in the article »The Library of a Rural Clergyman II«, among the moral treatises that should be included in a priest's library, you also mentioned the excellent adaptation of St Alphonsus by Neyraguet; on the other hand, you made no mention of the Compendium theol. moralis ex genuina doctrina S. Alphonsi, auctore Joanne Petro Gury, in seminario Valsensi Professore, addito jure Austriaco per Didacum Micheletti J. U. D. eccl. Cath. Veronensis Canonicum. And yet this compendium surpasses the cited work in clarity and structure. It appears, therefore, that this work is not yet in the hands of many, and I wish to contribute my small part to helping it cross the Brenner. A notice of it, together with a brief review, is found in the Tiroler Zeitung of 18 July 1851, No. 163. One can fully endorse what is stated there. The author has ordered the material wisely and practically, masterfully combining brevity with clarity in his presentation; indeed, on the most difficult and complex questions, he is so clear as to be intelligible even to ordinary minds, enabling anyone to master this highly important discipline on their own. We obtain the work here from the Trent Seminary for 3 fl. 20 kr. C.M. in banknotes. The edition is handsome in duodecimo, and the typography pleasant. The first two small volumes have 430–40 pages each, the third 590. Those who do not prefer to order the work privately, which is generally more advisable for Italian books, may obtain it from the printer Leonardo de Giorgi in Verona, St. Euphemiastraße No. 597 for 3 fl. 36 kr. C.M., or through the Felizian Rauch bookshop in Innsbruck.

1852 at a glance

The year 1852 in Merano was defined by administrative changes under neo-absolutism, civic social initiatives such as the women-led management of the Marien-Verein, and local challenges. Significant events included a fire disaster in March and official restrictions following a cattle disease outbreak in April. Meanwhile, regional infrastructure projects like the Adige river regulation and railway planning remained central topics. →
