Daily Report.

Meran, 18 Dec. Yesterday, an express courier arrived from Glurns addressed to the local district captain on account of a disturbance that occurred there during the military conscription draw, whereupon the latter immediately departed for Glurns in person. The commission wished to hold a new drawing, whereas those who had drawn high numbers refused to consent, sparking a tumult that, it appears, was limited to smashing the chairs and windows of the courthouse. 1850 at a glance

The year 1850 in Meran was shaped by administrative changes following its elevation to the seat of a district authority, alongside severe storm damage in the summer that triggered extensive relief efforts. At the same time, educational advancements with the establishment of the upper secondary school, significant infrastructure projects, and high-ranking imperial visits such as the federal target-shooting event marked the town's rise as a prominent regional center. These developments reflect Meran's transition into an important administrative and tourist hub. →
