>> In a dispatch in yesterday's Innsbrucker Zeitung from Meran dated the 5th of this month, the Tiroler Bote is reproached for delaying, as an “official organ”, the publication of authentic damage reports concerning the weather disaster in Allgund and Gratsch, despite the fact that the commission investigations on the matter were conducted long ago. The correspondent from Meran seems to hold an entirely erroneous view of the Bote's position as an “official organ”. This status is limited solely to the paper's obligation to print free of charge, either in the official gazette or in the designated section of the main sheet, any decrees and notices received from the authorities. Any further influence over the publication of official releases does not in the least belong to the editorial staff of the Bote. If, therefore, the results of the aforementioned commission inquiries into the weather damage in Allgund and Gratsch have not yet been made public in the Bote, the reason lies by no means in any culpable delay on the part of the editorial staff, which has never withheld its warm sympathy from fellow countrymen struck by misfortune, but solely and exclusively in the fact that nothing on the matter has so far reached them from the authorities for publication. For the rest, we refer to the notice contained only recently in No. 172 of our paper from 30 July of this year, stating that the editorial staff of the Bote is always gladly prepared to accept “contributions for charitable purposes of whatever kind”.

At the same time, infrastructure and educational developments shaped the town, while natural disasters like the severe cloudburst in July and a fire in Obermais caused extensive damage. Supra-regional topics, including the arrival of Archduke Rainer and railway planning, were also prominent in the reports. →
