Thanksgiving Ceremony in Frankfurt for Imperial Vicar Archduke John and Deliberations of the Craftsmen's Congress

Frankfurt, 17 July. Yesterday, at the behest of the municipal committee, a solemn ceremony of thanksgiving was held in the Catholic parish church to mark the assumption of the dignity of Imperial Vicar by Archduke John of Austria. Professor Weber, a Benedictine from Meran and deputy to the National Assembly, delivered the pulpit sermon, which, though lasting a full hour, was received with devout acclaim by the large congregation. — The craftsmen's congress assembled here has already held several sessions. The principal speakers have thus far largely pronounced themselves in favor of preserving the guild system, in which they perceive the most reliable means of securing the livelihood of fellow tradesmen.
