Election Results for the Frankfurt National Assembly in Tyrol and Vorarlberg
Official notice of the election results for the Frankfurt National Assembly in May 1848 across several Tyrolean and Vorarlberg constituencies. Alongside the Unterinntal, Oberinntal, Pustertal, Bozen, Roveredo, and Vorarlberg, the election of Father Beda Weber in the Meran district is reported.

The further elections to the German National Assembly announced thus far yielded the following results: In the 3rd Unterinntal electoral district, consisting of the judicial districts of Rattenberg, Hopfgarten, Kitzbichl, and Kufstein, elected deputy with 64 out of 96 votes was Mr. Alois Schmid, dean and prince-archiepiscopal councillor in Brixen im Brixenthale; alternate unanimously Mr. Dr. Peter Gspan, k. k. appellate councillor here. – In the 1st Oberinntal electoral district, consisting of the provincial courts of Landeck, Glurns, Nauders, Ischgl, Ried, and Imst, deputy with 96 out of 98 votes Mr. Alois Flir, k. k. university professor here; alternate with 89 out of 98 votes Mr. Dr. Ferdinand von Stöckl, k. k. appellate councillor here. – In the 2nd Oberinntal electoral district, consisting of the judicial districts of Silz, Reutte, and Telfs, deputy with 81 out of 87 votes Mr. Dr. Johann Kerer, k. k. university professor here; 1st alternate with 71 out of 87 votes Mr. Vinzenz Gasser, professor of theology in Brixen; 2nd alternate with 57 out of 87 votes Mr. Dr. Haßlwandter, k. k. dicasterial advocate here. – In the 1st Pustertal electoral district, consisting of the judicial districts of Bruneck, Taufers, Enneberg, Buchenstein, Mühlbach, Brixen, and Klausen, deputy with 84 out of 93 votes Mr. Vinzenz Gasser, professor of theology in Brixen; 1st alternate with 80 against 93 votes Mr. Dr. Johann Kerer, k. k. university professor here; 2nd alternate with 54 out of 93 votes Mr. Petzer, k. k. district judge in Bruneck. – In the 1st electoral district of the circle of Botzen, consisting of the municipal magistrate district of Botzen and the judicial districts of Ritten, Kastelruth, Karneid, Kaltern, and Neumarkt, deputy with 85 out of 97 votes His Excellency Baron Franz von Unterrichter, k. k. president of the court of appeals in Klagenfurt; alternate with 88 out of 97 votes Mr. Johann Putzer, merchant and estate owner in Botzen. – In the 1st electoral district of the circle of Roveredo, consisting of the municipal magistrate district of Roveredo and the judicial districts of Roveredo, Nogaredo, Mori, and Ala, deputy with 91 out of 109 votes Baron Johann von Prato, Doctor of Theology and professor of religious studies at the gymnasium in Roveredo; alternate with 72 out of 109 votes Mr. Franz Anton Marsilli, municipal magistrate secretary in Roveredo. – In the 1st electoral district of the circle of Vorarlberg, consisting of the provincial courts of Bregenz, Bezau, and Dornbirn, deputy Mr. Jodock Stülz, archivist of St. Florian Abbey and member of the Academy of Sciences in Vienna, and upon non-acceptance the 1st alternate Mr. Jos. Feßler, Doctor and professor of theology in Brixen, and in his stead potentially the 2nd alternate Mr. Jos. Bergmann, k. k. councillor and custodian of the k. k. Cabinet of Coins and Antiques in Vienna. In the electoral district of Meran, Professor Father Beda Weber was elected deputy with 72 votes, and Mayor Haller was elected alternate with 69 votes, out of 90 votes cast.

1848 at a glance
The year 1848 in Merano and its surroundings was defined by the political upheavals of the March Revolution, the introduction of constitutional rights, and the repercussions of the Italian unrest. While the population formed rifle companies for territorial defense and raised donations for wounded soldiers, the region was directly integrated into the Frankfurt National Assembly through the deputy Beda Weber. At the same time, Merano remained a prominent spa destination, as evidenced by the summer stay of King William I of Württemberg. →
