Participation of the Ulten Schützen Company in the Imperial Visit to Meran
A supplementary note records the presence of the Schützen company from the district of Ulten during the imperial couple's journey through Meran. Commanded by the highly decorated 73-year-old veteran Captain Partatscher, the unit received supreme imperial commendation.

Concerning the festivities on the occasion of Their Majesties' passage through Meran, a supplementary note should be added that the judicial district of Ulten, assigned to the imperial-royal district court of Lana, likewise dispatched its own company of Schützen to Meran, as did all other neighboring courts; commanded by Captain Partatscher, a 73-year-old veteran decorated with the large gold and silver medals of the years 1796 and 1797, the company had the honor of receiving the expression of supreme satisfaction.

The Ascent of the Ortler in July 1838
Report on the ascent of the Ortler on 21 July 1838 by a group of six, including postmaster Andreas Tschiggfrey and 16-year-old Maria Karner. Guided by Johann Bruner, the party completed the hazardous route across ice and rock in eight hours. At the summit, they encountered the remains of the historic Gebhard pyramid erected in 1802.

The year 1838 in Meran and its surroundings was significantly shaped by a high-ranking imperial visit and the ceremonial enfeoffment of Andreas Hofer's descendants at Tyrol Castle. Alongside these events of regional historical importance, the year was marked by natural phenomena such as severe storm damage and the successful ascent of the Ortler peak. At the same time, preparations for the spa season and traditional Schützen events defined the local calendar. →
