Even though individuals who have rendered great services to the education of youth require no external monument after their death, as they continue to live on in the grateful hearts of their pupils and find a richer reward beyond the grave, it is nevertheless always pleasing for them to hear many things yet unknown about them and to know that they are honored by others as well. Moreover, it is encouraging for teachers who dedicate themselves to the arduous task of educating youth to read the merits of their worthy predecessors acknowledged in patriotic journals. Therefore, it will not be displeasing to find included here a brief biographical sketch of two individuals belonging to our homeland who passed away a few years ago: the Provost of Innichen, Ignatz Mantinger, and Mother Theresia, née Baroness von Paravizini, teacher at the Ursuline convent in Bruneck, both of whom earned great merit in the education of youth.

I.

Ignatz Mantinger was born in Villnöß, in the jurisdiction of Gufidaun, on November 11, 1749, to upright and not entirely indigent country folk. He . . . . . . .

He died during the great committee congress as a deputy of the prelates' estate on May 23, 1819, of pneumonia here, where his remains still rest peacefully, while his spirit, as we hope, already enjoys its earned reward.
