Severe storm and cloudburst in Tscherms

Meran. On May 28, a terrible storm broke over the village of Tscherms, in the Lana district court. A dense black cloud gathered over it and spread total darkness, followed by a literal cloudburst that sent its devastating floods down all the mountain ravines, tore deep gulleys into the beautiful vineyards, filled stables and cellars with water, and in the short space of half an hour (for thank God it did not last longer, otherwise the entire village would have been destroyed) buried the local church so deeply that one could reach the upper vault from the rubble. Everything inside the church, even the Most Blessed Sacrament, was beyond saving, and only at night could some of the vestments etc. be dug out of the mud. The damage caused by this misfortune to the otherwise not wealthy village is very great.
