An 1834 report in the Augsburg Allgemeine Zeitung praises the mild climate, rich vegetation, and advantages of Meran as a health resort for chest patients in comparison to Nice. It also depicts the Tyrolean custom of the summer retreat, in which residents of Bozen and Meran escape the summer heat by heading to higher altitudes and mineral baths.
On 6 July 1834, a brief but strong earthquake occurred in Glurns in the early morning hours. Accompanied by a dull roar, the seismic event lasted approximately seven seconds, moving from west to east.
