Overview

In April 1821, the district of Bolzano was shaped by hydraulic engineering works along the Isarco and Adige rivers and agricultural trials with Chinese mountain rice, which yielded positive results in Merano among other locations. Furthermore, reports documented the historical tradition of the Hohlepfann beacon fires near Merano, which were lit sparingly this year due to fire safety concerns. Cultivation Experiments with Chinese Mountain Rice in the Bozen District in 1820

The Hohlepfannfeuer bonfires in the Merano area
