The article examines the origins of the German-speaking population in South Tyrol and adjacent Venetian areas. The author argues against the exclusive Cimbrian descent theory, asserting that the German Alpine inhabitants are indigenous to the region, with a dialect closely resembling that of North Tyrol. Historical place names and 13th- and 14th-century documents demonstrate the continuous presence of the German language in valleys such as Valsugana and Fleims.
