From Tyrol. The Ministry of Education has declared the gymnasium in Hall to be a lower gymnasium due to a lack of local funds and adequate teaching staff. The Franciscans of the North Tyrolean religious province will continue to provide the teaching staff for this institution as before. Since the capital Innsbruck with its educational institutions is nearby and Tyrol is provided with several upper gymnasiums, this ministerial order is considered all the more justified, as the establishment of an upper gymnasium in Hall could only have taken place at the expense of the educational fund, whose resources should rather be preserved for the educational institutions truly necessary for the land. For German Tyrol three, for Italian Tyrol two, and for Vorarlberg one upper gymnasium would be entirely sufficient. It would be detrimental to good gymnasium education if the rumor were to be confirmed that the Meran gymnasium faces the same fate as that of Hall. The capable teachers who currently educate our youth in Meran should be kept together at all costs, and a contribution from the educational fund for the excellent gymnasium of Meran, in order to develop it into an upper gymnasium for the Adige region, would certainly be very well applied and truly beneficial to higher education.
