Archduke John's Visit to Brixen
In June 1838, Archduke John visited Brixen, where he inspected the fortification works near Unterau and attended the imperial-royal main shooting range. He then continued his journey to Innsbruck via Meran.

Brixen, June 12. The evening before last, His Imperial Highness the Most Serene Archduke John arrived here from Botzen; His Highness immediately received with gracious favor the formal respects of the Most Reverend Prince-Bishop, as well as of the civil and military authorities. Yesterday, His Imperial Highness inspected in complete detail all the fortification construction works near Unterau. Notwithstanding the longer stay that became necessary there, His Imperial Highness also deigned to visit the local imperial-royal main shooting range and inaugurate the free-shooting competition held for His welcome arrival, while expressing His highest satisfaction with the growing number of registered riflemen. This morning at 6:30, this universally beloved prince set out on his journey to Innsbruck via Botzen, Meran, and Nauders through the Oberinnthal.
