Overview

In July 1838, events in and around Merano were marked by the severe storm of late June and its aftermath. A lightning strike hit the subsidiary church of St. Ulrich in Plars, causing severe structural damage to the tower and vault, as well as one fatality and injuries among those present.

Lightning Strike at the St. Ulrich Branch Church in Plars

On 29 June 1838, lightning struck the St. Ulrich branch church in Plars, causing severe damage to the steeple, vaulting, and interior furnishings. One of three women present inside the church was killed, and the other two were injured.
